If it is 1940, then it has to be before July 5th - when 60 feet of the centre
parts of the pier were blown out by Royal Engineers, as part of the anti
invasion measures.

This view is pre-war. The beach and promenade were closed to the public in 1939
with military installations, barbed wire etc being set up on foreshore. The
BOLSONS "SKYLARK" launches were commandeered by the governemnt for war
service with some serving at Dunkirk. This, again, looks like the late 1920's to
me
