There is evidence that this is post 1969 - summer of perhaps. In 1966 the town
still had trolleybuses and yet there is no trace of the town centre's
complicated overhead wiring in this picture. The support poles/lamp posts do
remain, as they would for a relatively short while whilst new modern lights were
installed from 1970.

Looking at the second 1966 picture I may be wrong! This picture also shows no
evidence of trolleybus wiring but does clearly show a trolleybus. (front of,
facing Square from Gervis Place) It maybe that someone has been busy with a
1960's airbrush - trolleybuses were out of fashion at this time and some
contemporary postcards etc did have the wires deleted.

Shame we can't zoom in and see a car registration plate!

As the original poster of the two pictures of Bournemouth Square in 1966, I can
state emphatically the the pictures were taken in 1966. I went and checked the
publication, (printed for the Tourist Department for the township)and it says
that it was published in 1967. It even gives the number of hours of sunshine in
1966. I was quite interested in your comment Mark regarding no trollybus wires
which I had not even noticed, (very observant of you I might add) and then as
you pointed out, you noticed that there was a trolleybus in the second posting.
I think that you hit the nail on the head when you said that it looks like there
has been some airbrush touchup done.

I went back to the original picture and with extra magnification, I can see the
trolleybus wires in the picture. The scanner did not do justice to the finer
details. I also tried to see if I could read the plates. No such luck.

Perhaps you need a younger set of eyes to look at the photos! :-) I can quite
clearly see overhead wires running along the street in the foreground. The
trolleybuses in the Square photo are quite clear also, with their adapted roofs.

Bourne Ave is not visible despite the header paragraph claiming it is.
Probably
taken from the top of the building at the junction of Old Christchurch Rd and
Gervis Place circa 1966.
The road opposite forking to the left [ zebra crossing
] is Commercial Rd , now pedestrianised. The road that forks off to the right is
Avenue Rd leading up to the Triangle.
