The Square from Commercial Rd. Today Boots shop stands out of shot to the right
. The little hedge lined garden to the left is the front garden of The London
Hotel [ where the Vodafone shop is now]. The rd the other side of the garden
is Avenue Rd leading up left to The Triangle. In the centre of the photo is
Central Chambers [1888.Empress Hotel now Nat West].To the left,on Richmond Hill,
the very similar looking building [Central Hotel with St Peters Church spire
visible behind it ] was destroyed in a ww2 air raid along with the Punshon
Memorial Church next to it. A replacement church was built in Exeter Rd[ now
directly opp BIC ] in the 1950's but has been sold recently for redevelopment.
