We are in Bath Rd looking out onto The Lansdowne.Holdenhurs t Rd is opposite and
Christchurch Rd is right. The Lansdowne has six roads running from it.The main
building opposite was the Metropole Hotel which was destroyed by German bombs
dropped during an air raid in 1943 killing a large number of people mainly
Canadian soldiers. This was the same air raid that destroyed Beales department
store amongst others.
The ruins of the Metropole Hotel remained on the site
until 1957 and the building of Royal London House that occupies the site now [
its got a Kentucky Fried Chicken on the ground floor ].
