Yanks in Bournemouth 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Myself and 3 other yanks stationed at RAF greenham Common from 1957 untill 1960 use to visit Bournemouth every week end we could, which was almost every week end.one of us had an old 1947 Oldsmobile convertable and we use to drive down from Newbury with the top down. It has a busted muffuler and made the loudest noise going through all the towns between Newbury and Bournemouth. The first week end we stayed at a little hotel called the 4 ways. I remember it was just off a rather big roundabout with a huge statue in the middle. During that week end we met a yank that lived in Bournemouth, he stayed in England after the war and married an English girl. He also owned a hotel just across the street from the 4 Ways so we started staying at his hotel when we came to town. I wish I could remember the name of his hotel but as you can Imagine we were 4 young bucks in a seaside resort town and had nothing on our minds except very attractive young ladies. We use to hang out at a small club called either the 80 or 81 club, I cant remember which it was. It was located about in the middle of what is now a walking street in downtown Bournemouth. The club had a small bar and dance floor upstairs and downstairs there was a college tea bar with a dance floor. We had the most fun at that place.
Well anyway I just wanted to tell everyone in Bourne mouth that I love your town and the people in it. I plan on returning one day and relive old memories.
Anyone reading this that may have remembered us, my E-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Would love to hear from you.
